Biografie

Rolliers, Alfons

by Jan Dewilde

Alfons Rolliers took carillon classes with Jef Denijn in Mechelen. In 1904 Rolliers was appointed as first city carilloneur in his native town, when the house Felix Van Aerschodt donated a new carillon to the city for its centenary celebration.

In 1910 Rolliers won the prize of honor in a carillon competition in Mechelen. From then on he became a much sought-after concert carilloneur, with performances in Belgium and the Netherlands.

In Sint-Niklaas Rolliers was also conductor of the symphonic wind band 'De Kunstvrienden' and the singing society 'Vooruit'. Alfons Rolliers mainly composed carillon works and songs.
