Biografie
Boudewijn Cox was born in Huijbergen in the Netherlands and grew up in Rijkevorsel, Belgium. He received extensive musical training, earning diplomas in guitar, chamber music, harmony, counterpoint, fugue and composition. As a composer, he gained international recognition at an early stage. His Hommage à Ohana received a SABAM prize and was selected as the compulsory work for an international guitar competition. With Octet he won the Prometheus Prize, while Onyx for orchestra received a special distinction at the Vienna Modern Masters. Wider recognition followed with the piano work Prelude, which was chosen as a compulsory work for the semi-finals of the Queen Elisabeth Competition and was later selected for the ISCM Festival in Miami.
His orchestral work Da Una Certa Distanza received awards in Germany and Bulgaria and has been performed by several orchestras. His music has been heard in venues including deSingel, the Berliner Philharmonie and Carnegie Recital Hall. More recent commissions include a first symphony, a piano concerto and new chamber music repertoire. Alongside his work as a composer, Cox has also been active in music education for many years.
