Biografie

At the Ghent Conservatory, Julien Willemot earned first prizes for Dutch singing (with Eduard De Vos in 1889), solfège (in 1890), harmony (with Paul Lebrun in 1890), French singing (in 1892) and a second prize for fugue (with Adolphe Samuel in 1894). Later he became singing teacher at the conservatories of Ghent and Bruges. In Bruges he was also conductor of the choir that sang for the conservatory concerts and of the mixed choir 'Les Intimes'. Willemot mainly composed vocal music: choral works, songs, cantatas, an oratorio and a mass. Julien Willemot, who was also called Willemoet, was married to the singer Jeanne Recht.
